Lyrics to Love Is A Laserquest
I have chosen these 3 tracks (Chemical Courage, Too Many Friends, Love is a Lazerquest) to analyse as they have story-like lyrics, which allow filming creativity and a basis for storyboards, which I will create in a few weeks,

Research into similar products: Intitial Research for Digipaks
Typical conventions of alternative rock and indie rock album and digipak covers:
Examples of alternative rock and indie rock digipak covers that conform to these conventions:
1. Simplistic colour scheme:
2.Simplistic design:
4. Different colours for band name compared to the rest of the cover: (Colourful and plain black)
5. Hidden meanings: One X represents the outsiders (the 'wrongs' in a big group of 'corrects' represented by the ticks) all coming together as one.
6. Title to explain to the audience: (This is a compilation album)
7. Bold simplistic fonts for the band name:
8. Opposite fonts for an album title: Serif and sand serif change.
Researching these covers has been extremely helpful to me for deciding on which type of digipak cover I will concentrate on.
My favourites are the covers with black backgrounds (Arctic Monkeys, Catfish and the Bottlemen) as these seem to give the biggest impact as the colours contrast. Album covers similar to these also allow creative control as the protruding colours can be independent of the background, unlike the Blur album, for example, which has a more complicated background than the rest of the covers I have researched.

Research into similar products: Initial Research for music videos
Music videos contain a number of different elements:
I will use this research as a basis for inspiration, and the elements of these music videos as a mock checklist to attempt to include in my planning.
- Performance
- Narrative
- Thematic
- Symbolic
The purposes of music videos are:
- To promote a single and, normally, an album
- To promotes an artist or band
- To creates, adapt and feed into a ‘star image’
- To entertain an audience and fans
- Sets the ‘meanings’ of a song by the use of moving images
Types of music videos:
- Performance Clips - Concentrate on stage performance of bands
- Conceptual clips - Based around a theme or story
a)
Narrative “mini film” idea
i)either
simple fantasy situation with other images inbetween eg artist
ii)Or
complex genre ‘story’ eg Michael Jackson’s Thriller
b) Non
-narrative often dream like , random thoughts around a loose theme eg lost
love, use lots of symbolism
The majority of promo music videos contain:
(Using alternative rock/ indie rock music videos as examples)
Different shots of the artists performing.
A live stage performance, with shots of artists and audience.
The artists in “real life” situations eg. warming up,
talking, fooling around.
Often includes lots of close ups of the artist and there can
be a particular visual style that goes with the artist (a motif) eg. particular
clothing, actions, props, type of images.
Often the artist can appear to perform in an unusual place,
for example, all lip-synched in a field
or a rooftop
I will use this research as a basis for inspiration, and the elements of these music videos as a mock checklist to attempt to include in my planning.

A2 Media
I'm Chantelle Swain and this is my blog for my A2 media project. I have decided to concentrate on music videos, artist websites and magazine adverts for my initial research.
